Call for volunteers for UK food sovereignty movement core group

Nov 27, 2014

Do you want to help develop the food sovereignty movement in the UK, and contribute to the international food sovereignty movement? Food sovereignty is a viable alternative food system that creates practical, sustainable and democratic solutions to the failed industrialised food model. The current system dispossesses small and medium scale food producers, both in the UK and overseas, and creates health and environmental crises while increasing the profits of big corporations. Yet in every continent, millions of producers and consumers are involved in trying to make their vision of a better food system a reality.

The UK food sovereignty movement is looking to recruit motivated and knowledgeable people for the core group. The tasks of the group are to: - Organise the 2nd UK Food Sovereignty Gathering in Oct 2015 - Manage a round Britain road show that will contribute to the gathering. - Manage the group’s social media, website and e-mail - Ensure that the core group is diverse and includes farmers, growers, food activists, NGOs, women and representatives from different parts of the UK. - Take forward other tasks identified by the supporting group, such as promoting activities on April 17th, the International Day of Peasants’ Struggles The group has monthly skype meetings and reports back to the supporting group periodically. (See attached document on our structure) We are ideally looking for people who are non- London based (currently 5 members of the group are based in London) and we would like at least two people who are food producers. Core group members need to have knowledge of sustainable food systems as well as practical experience of working in groups to effect change. Volunteer travel costs to meetings with the supporting group are provided. People need to be very self motivated as the group is spread out across the country. Please send a short e-mail (200 words max) outlining your skills and experience to info@foodsovereigntynow.org.uk
