Food grower sought for a new community food enterprise in Hampshire

Food Up Front has secured a 7 acre site to develop a new community food enterprise and is now looking for a grower to come on board as a partner and co-director of ‘Food Up Front: Elderfield’.

The right person will be responsible for planning and implementing fruit and vegetable production and work with others to develop a long-term plan for the not-for-profit enterprise.
Situated between Winchester and Eastleigh, the land currently houses 2 large poly-tunnels, a shade tunnel, a number of protected areas, 14 large concrete raised beds, a grassed field and a small orchard. The aim is to bring it back to life as a thriving centre for food production and training.

The landowner is in full support of the project and as a charity that supports ex-offenders it is keen to explore the opportunities it can provide the people it works with. Other local agencies have also shown an interest in the benefits the enterprise can bring their service users.

A limited amount of funding has been secured in the early stages to help purchase materials and contribute towards volunteer management during the pilot stages. No revenue funding is in place at this stage and the plan is to generate funding to help cover salaries and other costs by the time of the full project launch.

For this to happen, Food Up Front is looking for the right person with the experience or knowledge of growing food on this scale and who is interested in taking on and developing an ambitious project.

If you have the determination and drive and are excited by this opportunity, please get in touch with Seb Mayfield for an initial chat:
