Timber Frame Build – Orkney

Aug 11, 2016

WWOOFers Wanted: to help construct a timber frame, lime and timber clad cottage overlooking the sea on Orkney, Scotland.

Details about this golden opportunity to learn and share whilst situated in one of the most beautiful locations in the UK can be found below in the words of the WWOOF hosts themselves:

Looking for WWOOFers to assist in the construction of a timber framed lime and timber clad cottage on South Ronalday, Orkney. All food and accommodation is provided. Do please get in touch if you would like to come and join a team of builders to work on this interesting sustainable build. Any experience in building / eco building / landscaping / carpentry / renewables would be brilliant and a bonus!
This is a position that will be open for the next few months as the build goes into the second phase.  I look forward to hearing from you!  It promises to be a fun project!
I will be screening people as we will all be living together in and around the farm and I will be doing admin for the build.  We’d love motivated young people to apply for this.  My Dad is the architect – the nice man with the beard in the picture, we have a team of 4 professional builders and then just one from January onwards to do the end fix once it is watertight.  We would like a bigger team for our builders who are happy to work with semi skilled / not so skilled labour.
We don’t expect people to work for longer than 7 hours per day 4 days a week with a half day on a Friday and weekends off.  There is basic accommodation in and around the house and shared mealtimes.  We want this to be a good educational and fun experience for everyone.
If you are interested then please do get in touch with me, Islay, for more details: wheemsbothy@gmail.com
Thank you.
