WWOOF – 45 Years On

Aug 16, 2016

We would like to point you in the direction of a wonderful blog by Stephanie Donaldson – one of the first WWOOFers ever!!

Stephanie was a member of WWOOF UK way back in 1971; the year it all began. In her blog she describes the wonderful sense of adventure that her and others had at the time. After noticing an advert in London’s Time Out magazine announcing the opportunities for weekends on organic farms Stephanie recalls: “It was just what I was after, I needed to get out of the city and breathe some country air, so I rang the number. That phone call changed my life in many ways.”

The Enduring Gardener is the name of the wonderful blog in which Stephanie uploads valuable information covering a wide range of topics which include a guide to composting, greenhouses, garden maintenance and copious advice on growing vegetables and other plants. However, in a recent blog Stephanie shares her memories of the first WWOOF weekend that she embarked on and how one thing led to another. The story reads as a powerful testament to the benefits of listening to our gut feelings – one weekend WWOOF was simply not enough.
