news from the office

From Scarlett, our Chief Exec and Co-ordinator:
At a recent green fair in Ludlow, we met several people who said ‘what, you can WWOOF in the UK? We thought you had to travel abroad to WWOOF?!’ This is a common misunderstanding we hear all over the place. We’re wondering how we can get the message across that not only is WWOOFing across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England a great way to see your own country, but WWOOF actually started in the UK! Do you have any ideas of how to make that better known?

From Taryn, our Host Contact:
A few weeks ago, I met with our local NFU representative to catch up. He updated me on a couple of new policies that they have released, which I am sure you will be interested in:

Small Farmers policy – this is a combined policy, saving you money by not having to purchase an add-on of Employers Liability. This would suit smaller farms/smallholdings.

‘Home worker extension’ policy which includes employer liability – this would be suitable for ‘house and garden’ type hosts.

I would always recommend you talk to your current provider and shop around for the best deal for your individual circumstances.

Remember, it’s the host’s duty to make the environment safe for their volunteers.
