Need technical help?

Nov 23, 2017

If you are having technical issues, please Contact Us and tell us:

  • the step-by-step scenario that resulted in the issue.  Repeat the steps yourself to ensure you can recreate the problem.  If you can’t, we likely won’t be able to either, and perhaps it was a single occurrence with an unknown cause.
  • your device (e.g. PC, Mac, iPad, Samsung Galaxy S5 phone, etc.),
  • the Operating System & version on your device (e.g. Windows 7, Mac OS 10.1,  iOS 10.3.2, Android 4.4.2, etc.),
  • and which Internet Browser & version you are using (e.g. Internet Explorer 10, Firefox 53, Chrome 58, Safari 10.8).

Technology continues to change, and very quickly:

All websites must continue to upgrade to the latest technology available as all the components used eventually become outdated and are no longer supported by the manufacturer.

This is a frustrating aspect of using computers and the internet, as we are forced to keep up else the programs we use no longer work properly.

The advantages of using newer technology is the enhanced functionality that is available, and ensured security and safety against viruses, etc.

The services provided by websites in the cyber world can only guarantee to work if the user is using recent technology.  If you are using an old device (computer, tablet, smart phone) that is using very old programs then you likely will run into difficulties using some websites.  Most older devices do allow you to update your programs (operating systems, Internet Browsers, Email programs).  Keeping your programs up-to-date ensures they, as well as websites, work properly.

Also, there are are many different devices and programs out there.  It is impossible to ensure a website will work on all of them, and therefore all websites aim to work on the newer and most popular ones.

Unsupported Operating Systems:

What is an Operating System? An operating system is a program designed to run other programs on a computer, tablet, or smart phone. Manufacturers will drop support for older operating systems over time. To determine your device’s operating system, click here.(link is external)

Old operating systems that are not supported by the manufacturer are not supported by the Common WWOOF Platform (CWP), the website used by WWOOF Canada. Some examples include Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Mac OS X 10.5 and earlier. Microsoft and Apple have stopped providing support for these operating systems. Because of this, any new security flaws found will no longer be patched and updated. This poses a significant threat to network security as well as to the computer. Additionally, current virus protection may no longer widely available for these operating systems.

Computers running unsupported operating systems can not be guaranteed to work with wwoof.ca.  To resolve this problem these systems must be upgraded or replaced. For example, generally computers running Windows 95 cannot run Windows XP or newer because they will not meet the minimum hardware requirements required to run it (256MB of RAM, 4 GB of hard drive space free, Pentium 3 processor or higher, etc.).

We recommend professional help to upgrade your device to a new operating system.
