A LONG TERM OPPORTUNITY FOR WWOOFER(S) / LAND AVAILABLE RENT FREE FOR SMALL-HOLDING
For the last 30 years we have worked our 4 acre smallholding on a subsistence basis producing food for ourselves and our friends. It is 6m west of Poole in Dorset and we have a large orchard and veg plot, flock of sheep, greenhouse, barn, beehives, cider press, pond etc. and over the years we have involved local people in Apple Days, Solstice celebrations, Wassailling the Trees and even plays. It is known as Jim and Gill’s Field. At the present we can still manage to keep things running, but we know that age (we are 81 and 74) will stop us, sooner or later. Therefore, without transferring ownership, we want to find suitable Wwoofer(s) who might want to take on this land in a phased way, rent free, to use for subsistence or some other kind of agriculture in return for doing some minor maintenance and caretaking of the land. The amount of time this might involve depends on many things, but to us looking after the field has always been a very fulfilling part-time job.
We would want to have a trial period when we and you work together and after that there would be a signed agreement to cover a period sufficient for setting up new farming arrangements – say 5 or 10 years. So we are looking for Wwoofer(s) with enthusiasm and skills who may be able to make a commitment long term. They would need to live within reasonable access as there is no permanent accommodation on the land. We have always used the land to produce food rather than to generate an income which may or may not be possible. For our part we would want to continue our work there as long as we can but see no reason why part of the land cannot be made available for use straight away. In due course the ownership of the land will pass to our 3 children who will continue the arrangements.We have drawn up an agreement to be signed with the emphasis on flexibility and mutual agreement between the parties. Hi I’m Nicki and my partner Mark and I live on the Rhins of Galloway where we’re rewilding our 4-acre field. We moved here 3 years ago and have planted 1500 trees to create hedgerow and woodland and we plan to create a wildlife pond and introduce limited grazing as we strive to recreate Nature’s systems and processes, increase biodiversity, and contribute to carbon capture.
I’m currently working with the D&G Climate Hub to help develop climate action projects, and am setting up a network for people who are conducting Nature recovery activities on their own land. The network would enable us all to …

Treehouse Festival 2026 – an appeal for volunteers
The Treehouse Festival is an annual gathering of people on a farm nestled in the Norfolk countryside. It’s a week of learning traditional and forgotten crafts and skills. Think six days of blacksmithing, paper-making, basket-weaving, woodworking, spinning and weaving wool etc. and you’ll get the general picture. The dates for 2026 are 10th-15th August.
We always need a handful of people as volunteers to make sure that the festival runs smoothly before, during and after the festival itself. We thought that there would be plenty of WWOOF-ers who would be very interested in coming along and helping out. We would particularly be interested in anybody who has relevant sets of skills (anything from plumbing, catering through to barista/bar experience) but of course we also need people who can muck in with whatever is needed.
In return you’ll get plenty of free time to learn many of the crafts and skills that will be on offer; all your meals will be provided and there are evening entertainments to join in with as well. You can see more at our website:
