We are at the beginning of Organic September according to the Soil Association. Apparently the same campaign last year lifted the sales of organic produce in the UK by 4 per cent during the month. They are hoping that this year’s efforts will be the biggest UK-wide celebration of all things organic. There are more details available on their website.
The Soil Association’s regular summary of organic issues is useful. Some of the issues it’s highlighted recently are the plight of bees and the use of neonicotinoids, the WHO’s ruling that glyphosate is a probable carcinogen, the funding benefits of farming organically and the Scottish government’s plans to ban the growing of GM crops in Scotland.
